Help I’m 59!
As she stared into the mirror grimacing and pointing to the lines on her forehead. My friend cried.
“I’m 59 years old now what”?
“Now enjoy it, you won’t be 59 again I laughed”
Joking apart getting older is a subject many women find painfully unhappy to face. But do you have to make growing older something to dread or can you learn to embrace this chapter of your life? A chapter that can bring new experiences and new rewards if you take the trouble to let it? 60 is the new 40 and 50 the new 30 so get out there and make a stand. Take Mary Portas for example, the retail consultant who stars in secret shopper. Mary is 55 and dresses like a woman of 30. Mary is bright, flamboyant, trendy and full of life. I know it’s all a question of personal taste but you get the idea.
A Question of Money.
Yes I agree, Mary Portas along with many other celebrities can afford to shop at the best high street stores and buy designer outfits costing the earth. But hang on a minute, there are hundreds of charity shops around selling designer clothing and accessories at rock bottom prices. I had lunch with a friend the other day who was wearing a pink leather jacket selling on the High Street for £250 she’d paid £8.00 in a charity shop! Many charities now have dedicated shops that sell nothing other than designer clothes. So raid your piggy bank, get going and have some fun.
Act Your Age- Not Likely!
I am the first to admit I don’t make a big deal about age. If you want to focus on anything focus on having fun, trying a new hobby, or hairstyle, do something you haven’t done before, come on come out of your comfort zone. If you find it scary good, at least you’re having a go. The point is this, you have a choice whether to sit there feel sorry for yourself and be the prophet of doom and gloom, or you can do something about it. I’m not suggesting you get all glammed up and hate it. But you can do something that makes you feel good, whether it’s joining an exercise class, or having a make-up lesson. And yes, maybe it is time to clutter clear that wardrobe and swap those old clothes that haven’t seen the light of day for years.
Whatever you choose to do give it your all, your best shot, because after all as they say in the advert.
‘You’re worth it’
